Breathing Gadget. A Space that loves you unconditionally.
Part of my 2013 MFA Thesis, Design and Technology at Parsons the New School for Design: "I am my home. My home is myself."
What is the relationship to what we make? How can technology provoke storytelling?
"Breathing Gadget" is a large walk-in bookcase unit that opens and closes and has plush lining on the inside. It is both, a hiding place and a place of comfort. The inner layer of the unit inflates and deflates mimicking human breathing. This project investigates object, space and user relationship. It puts demand on the artifacts we choose to surround ourselves with. It looks at home not just as a passive space but an active participant in our lives.
I have created an experience for people that need human-like connection with the artificial. This work, however, isn't only for lonely people or people living alone. It is for anyone who’s open to experiencing objects and spaces as not simple possessions but as coexisting partners.
Other components of the project are: "PET ME BENCH", "I WISH I WAS KINETIC" and a multi-part video installation: "FROM DIARIES OF MY THINGS".
